Caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati estimated today that Israeli airstrikes on supposed Hezbollah facilities in Lebanon have forced 1 million people to flee their homes. And Lebanese health authorities report that the airstrikes have killed at least 1,300. Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad claimed on Sept. 26, before yesterday’s bunker buster bombs leveled apartment buildings in Beirut, that the “main aim of these indiscriminate attacks is to spread an atmosphere of terror and to cause mass exodus.” Lebanon, with a population of some 5.5 million, it would mean that airstrikes are displacing more than 18% of the people.
