Mongolia Explains Why It Didn’t Execute the ICC Arrest Warrant Against Putin

A spokesman for the Mongolian government responded on Sept. 4 to a question from Politico EU, as to why they had failed to arrest visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, as per the standing ICC arrest warrant. The email message stated:

“Mongolia imports 95% of its petroleum products and over 20% of electricity from our immediate neighborhood, which have previously suffered interruption for technical reasons. This supply is critical to ensure our existence and that of our people.” Furthermore, “Mongolia has always maintained a policy of neutrality in all its diplomatic relations, as demonstrated in our statements of record to date.”
