Prank Call with Polish Foreign Minister Exposes Rifts within Europe

Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus tricked another European leader into spilling the beans in a prank phone call—this time with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. Pretending to be former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the Russian pranksters succeeded in holding a more than 20-minute discussion with Sikorski, in which he revealed a number of inconvenient truths about the current disagreements within European governments in regards to the war in Ukraine.

In one question, Sikorski was asked whether, if France and the UK agree to join in the war on Ukraine’s side and actively fight Russia, if Poland would also “join the team”? Sikorski replied: “My prime minister would be very reluctant to do it.” Poland is currently considering shooting down Russian missiles over Ukrainian airspace, he said, “and even that, at this stage, is very, very controversial and there is no agreement for that, because it would be joining the war.” Pressed on this, he made an ominous comment: “Things might change if the front started to collapse… but at the moment there is zero willingness to do that, I have to tell you… We don’t want to confirm what Mevedev and Putin and the Russian propaganda have been saying all along.”

The foreign minister also had some uncomfortable things to say about Ukraine and the prospects for it to joining NATO. In response to a question about this, Sikorski coldly said this would not happen anytime soon, and added: “I think some of our Western European friends are using the idea of Ukraine joining NATO as a bargaining chip with Russia. Which is maybe not a bad thing.” As with a carrot and stick, this could be used to push Russia to withdraw from Ukraine in return for Ukraine not joining NATO, he said. Pressed on this, Sikorski simply said: “You know as well as I that there is no willingness to have a war with Russia in western Europe. This is an absolute red line.”
