Putin in Talks with President of Equatorial Guinea, Focusing on Energy and BRICS

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week. Obiang was a special guest at the event and spoke alongside Putin at the plenary session. In his address to the forum, Obiang expressed Equatorial Guinea’s interest in deepening cooperation with partners, especially Russia in the energy sector. Equatorial Guinea is one of Africa’s major hydrocarbon producers.

During his meeting with Putin, which centered on energy cooperation, bilateral economic and political cooperation, Obiang expressed his wish for the Russian Federation to support his country’s bid to join BRICS. Later on, in his speech before the chamber of the Russian State Duma, Obiang offered to host the 2026 Russian-African Summit in his nation’s capital Malabo.
