Shoigu Tells BRICS Security Meeting, the World Should Move Away from the Dollar

It is of note that the new Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Sergey Shoigu, who had served as Defense Minister from 2012-2024, chose to emphasize the global financial crisis in an interview granted to Russian media on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS security conference in Russia.

“It is [now] obvious for everyone that whatever savings they have may end up in someone else’s pocket rather than their own,” Shoigu said. Governments “realize that they need to go away from the U.S.-dependent financial system. There is a need for a structure that would not be so monopolized and dependent on U.S. domestic laws,” he added. The current system “cannot stand.”
