Meta announced on Sept. 16 that RT would be banned from all of its platforms internationally, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. They announced this just days after the Sept. 13 State Department announcement of sanctions against “Kremlin-coordinated news organizations.”
NBC News reported on Meta’s statement: “After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets: Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity.”
YouTube also moved on Sept. 16: “As part of our ongoing commitment to comply with applicable U.S. government sanctions, we terminated over 230 channels affiliated with AVO TV Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya, all of which were already blocked from viewers,” a YouTube spokesperson wrote in an email.
The EU blocked RT back in 2022.
