China took note of the Sept. 11 visit of the U.S. and U.K. chief foreign policy officials, Tony Blinken and David Lammy to Kyiv, Ukraine, and concluded that “the actions of the U.S. and U.K. to fan the flames of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict have further accelerated and intensified.”

The semi-official daily Global Times warned the next day in its Observer op-ed signed “by the Global Times":

“This rare joint visit still does not aim to bring peace…. The two want to ensure that Ukraine adopts a hardline, uncompromising position and to exhaust Russia militarily through Western aid to Ukraine. For the U.S. and U.K., peace talks are not even an option. Their real intention is to fan the flames of war, ensuring that Ukraine continues to serve as a pawn in this protracted conflict.”
