The United Arab Emirates announced yesterday the completion of the Arab world’s first nuclear power plant . The statement was issued by the state-owned Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).
The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is comprised of four APR-1400 reactors built by the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) at the cost of $24.4 billion. With a capacity of 5.6 GW, the plant will generate a 25% of the country’s electricity needs. The first of its four reactors had begun operations in 2020.
