For the first time, Ukraine has participated in a NATO exercise. The 11-day exercise in the Netherlands involved 20 countries and over 50 companies, and was focused on the newest drone and anti-drone technologies. A Reuters report on the event says that “the Western alliance seeks to learn urgently from the rapid development and widespread use of unmanned systems” in Ukraine.
The ostensible reason that Ukraine was invited is because it has made rapid advancement in its drone technologies—a capability which NATO admits it is behind on. “NATO has too few drones for a high-intensity fight against a peer adversary,” a report from the Center for European Policy Analysis think tank declared last September.
