On September 13 the Biden Administration made official the plan for massive tariffs against Chinese imports. The White House announced a 100% duty against Chinese electric vehicles, 50% tariffs on computer chips, semiconductors, and solar panels, and 25% tariffs on steel, aluminum, EV batteries, and industrial minerals. Virtually everything from toys and clothing to industrial machinery will be affected. Biden kept tariffs on $300 billion of Chinese imports which were imposed in January 2018 by the Trump White House and is now creating higher rates. In this election year both Trump and Harris are calling for more protectionism, with Trump generally calling for a more across-the-board tariff plan and Harris calling for more targeted tariffs.
