In a speech today before the UN General Assembly Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented what can only be described as an alternate reality divorced from the real world in which his nation borders on political, military and economic collapse. He began with the lie that in March 2022, he learned that Russia was attacking the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and charged that it is threatening to unleash a nuclear disaster on all of Ukraine and Europe. “Our intelligence,” he proclaimed, shows that Vladimir Putin is planning attacks “on our nuclear power plants and their infrastructure, aiming to disconnect the plants from the power grid.”
Seasoned observers noted that this may reflect plans by Zelenskyy’s controllers in London and Washington to launch a false-flag attack on a nuclear power plant in the days ahead, to create an “incident” justifying the use of Western-supplied long-range missiles by Ukraine.
At the center of Zelenskyy’s rant is his insistence that his “peace formula,” which he says he first proposed in the fall of 2022, is the only possible means of attaining peace. Zelenskyy bluntly warned that anyone proposing something different from his peace formula must be siding with the enemy. He explicitly attacked Brazil and China for their independent efforts to mediate a peace between Ukraine and Russia, which he accused of “trying to grow into a choir of voices–with someone in Europe, with someone in Africa, saying something [that is an] alternative to a full and just peace.” What, he asked, “is your true interest?” Everyone must understand, he threatened, “you won’t boost your power at Ukraine’s expense.”
He repeated the mantra that Russia is guided by imperial ambition, accusing it of stealing Ukraine’s land, and prepared to go beyond Ukraine to threaten other European countries. “Now every neighbor of Russia in Europe and Central Asia feels that the war could come to them as well, and just think—what kind of losses that would mean for the world,” he warned. He urged his audience not to count on the UN Security Council for anything because the Russians will just use their veto power making real peace negotiations impossible.
He concluded threateningly that the Ukrainian peace formula is the only answer, and “if someone in the world seeks alternatives to any of these points, or tries to ignore any of them, it likely means they themselves want to do a part of what Putin is doing—the point they ignore reveals the desire they are hiding.”
At a special session of the UN Security Council on Sept. 24, with ten or so non-members of the UNSC brought in to support him, Zelenskyy explained how his formerly unworkable “Peace Plan” has been upgraded to his present “Victory Plan.” He explained that “action” is necessary as the conflict “can’t be calmed by talks” and it won’t “simply fade away.… Russia can only be forced into peace, and that is exactly what’s needed: forcing Russia into peace as the sole aggressor in this war, the sole violator of the UN Charter.”
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia responded: “The only reason they convened this meeting was to provide Mr. Zelenskyy with yet another concert venue at the United Nations, this time in the Chamber of the Security Council. As backing singers, he has today a whole group of EU and NATO members, who march in lockstep each time they are instructed to come to the Security Council to malign Russia.”
