Germany’s Baerbock Financed NGO Ships in the Mediterranean

In the midst of the controversy on illegal immigration and Eurocrats putting up a concerned face, it has now come out that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has again given money to NGO ships in the Mediterranean, despite opposition by her government partners, with a trick. €1.9 million have been allocated to three NGOs, Sea Eye, SOS Humanity, and SOS Mediterranee, from the chapter “International Activities of Social Groups.”

NGO ships are collecting refugees in the Mediterranean and dumping them in Italian harbors. From there, some of those illegal immigrants are making their way to Germany and other northern European countries. The NGO ships are suspected to interface with human traffickers and have been often caught reaching out into North African territorial waters.

Over three years, the German government had financed those NGOs with €6 million. At the same time, the same government has voted down Italian proposals to sneak out of the Schengen rules in a clumsy effort to fend off the immigrant wave.

Answering a query from CDU Bundestag Deputy Ingo Gädechens as to whether the donations were made with the agreement of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Baerbock’s office answered that “it is the department that decides how to use the money,” i.e., the minister disburses the money as she wants.

FDP faction leader Christian Dürr demanded an end to all payments (€1.3 million have already been paid). “There was a clear statement by the Bundestag that there should be no taxpayers’ money for that. I expect that the will of the Parliament will be respected immediately.”
