Today, the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, issued its 33-page, 134 point joint Declaration. It is titled, “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.” Beginning with Point 6, the statement takes observes: “We note the emergence of new centers of power, policy decision-making and economic growth, which can pave the way for a more equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order.”
Among the many points following are specifics on furthering development by specific financial and economic proposals and initiatives, ranging from improving the “safety net” under IMF auspices, to innovative international financial relations, involving increased use of local currencies in trade. There are three main sections, with separate sub-headings. The first, with over 30 points is subtitled, “Enhancing Cooperation for Global and Regional Stability and Security.” The following section, titled, “Fostering Economic and Financial Cooperation for Just Global Development,” has another 60 points. The last section, subtitled, “Strengthening People-to-People Exchanges for Social and Economic Development,” has 15 points.
