A group of lawyers and legal experts from Italy, and seven countries from Africa, Latin America and Asia, have called for expelling Israel from the United Nations. The first signer of the call is Pino Arlacchi, former vice secretary-general of the UN.

After having recalled that Israel has violated countless UN resolutions, culminating with the genocide in Gaza, their call states: “Most recently, the arrogance of the Netanyahu government has gone so far as to insult the UN, calling it ‘a swamp of anti-Semitism,’ to declare its secretary-general persona non grata, and to deliberately cannonade the blue helmets of UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon), a peaceful interposition force deployed by the UN in Lebanon.”

“The measure is full. We believe that the time is more than ripe for the application against Israel of Article 6 of the UN Charter, which provides that ‘a Member of the United Nations which has persistently violated the principles set forth in the present Charter may be expelled from the Organization by the General Assembly upon the proposal of the Security Council.’”

“Such a measure should be accompanied by the adoption of sanctions, beginning with an immediate total embargo on the armaments with which Israel carries out its policy of extermination every day.
