China Responds to Increased Danger of General War in the Middle East

The Chinese Foreign Ministry, which is not holding press conferences during the National Day recess, issued a statement with regard to the Israeli incursion into Lebanon. The statement said: “China is deeply concerned about the turbulence in the Middle East. We oppose any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and any escalation of conflicts. China calls on the international community, especially influential major countries, to play a constructive role to avoid further turbulence. China believes that the failure to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza is the root cause of the current round of turmoil in the Middle East. All parties should achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.”
