When most of the rest of the world is moving away from the disintegrating trans-Atlantic system toward creating a new, rational world order in the BRICS and its allied institutions, crazed Argentine President Javier Milei insists his country’s future must be tied to NATO’s war policy, which, he claims, will allow it to play a greater role in global security policy. As if to explain his obscene embrace of Israel and Ukraine as major allies, during his Sept. 24 speech at the UN General Assembly, Milei boasted that Argentina has officially abandoned its traditional foreign policy stance of remaining neutral in any armed conflict. In that speech he also denounced the UN as a useless, “socialist” organization which is imposing a “supranational” agenda on the world and is “impotent to resolve real global problems.”

So, NATO is Milei’s problem solver. On Oct.7 Defense Minister Luis Petri spoke by phone with his U.S. counterpart Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to tell him how much Argentina wants to become a NATO “global partner” and play a greater role in global security matters in alliance with the U.S. and the West. According to Escenario Mundial on Oct. 9, the two discussed the importance of their bilateral strategic alliance and the need to deepen their defense cooperation. Austin also confirmed that Argentina will host next week’s 16th Conference of the Defense Ministers of the Americas to take place held in Petri’s home province of Mendoza.
