ITER Chief Pays a Visit to Russia To Discuss Progress on Joint Undertaking

Director-General Pietro Barabaschi of ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) visited Russia last week, to hold discussions with Rosatom’s Director General Alexey Likhachev and other key stakeholders in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as we reported at the time. On Oct. 8, Barabaschi met with Likhachev to review Russia’s contributions to the ITER tokamak fusion project, especially in manufacturing and equipment delivery. This meeting garnered significant media attention in Russia. During his visit, Barabaschi also toured institutions actively involved in ITER procurement and manufacturing, including the Efremov Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus, the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, and the Troitsk laboratory complex. On Oct. 10, he participated in a 17-minute interview with Sergey Brilev, president of the Global Energy Association, discussing the history and future of ITER and promoting energy research and cooperation.
