On Oct. 25, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in London. In their remarks ahead of their meeting, Safadi told Blinken very forcefully: “It is critical that we continue to engage, we count a lot on your role, your leading role is essential for us to be able to get through the nightmare the region continues to live. We really stand at the brink of regional war now. The only path to save the region from that is for Israel to stop the aggressions on Gaza and Lebanon, stop unilateral measures, illegal measures in the West Bank that is also pushing the situation towards the abyss. We want this to end and we want to be able to get to a place where we can really talk about achieving a just and lasting peace that will guarantee the security of the world. But we meet at a very, very critical moment, as you mentioned, the humanitarian situation is really difficult. When we look at northern Gaza, where we do see ethnic cleansing taking place, and that has got to stop.”
He also remarked that each time he and Blinken met, the situation in Southwest Asia became worse. “Not for lack of us trying, but because we do have an Israeli government that is not listening to anybody, and that has got to stop,” he said.
While in London, Blinken also met with United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Within hours of these meetings, Israel then launched its air attack into Iran.
