Karachi Terror Attack Targets Chinese Nationals

The outlawed Majeed Brigade of the terrorist Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) took responsibility for a massive bomb attack on Oct. 6 on a road near Pakistan’s Karachi Airport, which killed two Chinese nationals and injured several others. The BLA has a history of targeting Chinese nationals involved in the many projects China has built in Pakistan as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a major program of the Belt and Road, which extends from Kashgar, Xinjiang to Pakistan’s Gwadar Port at the mouth of the Persian Gulf.

According to reports, an initial investigation by Pakistani police found that around 80 kg of commercial explosives were placed in a vehicle which then drove into its targets. The attack damaged 12 vehicles, with many of them completely destroyed.

The Chinese Foreign Office on Oct. 7 said the attack would not “go unpunished.” The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan issued a statement today confirming that two of its nationals had died and requested a thorough investigation.
