Kazakhstan Votes To Build Second Nuclear Reactor

Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of a second nuclear reactor. The referendum was called given certain concerns among Kazakhs about nuclear energy. Kazakhstan has the greatest supply of uranium anywhere in the world and has been intent on utilizing these resources for the world’s nuclear energy plants since the breakup of the Soviet Union. However, Kazakhstan was the place where Soviet nuclear tests often occurred, at times with serious environmental damage, which has left a reticence in “going nuclear.”
