Nima R. Alkhorshid of the “Dialogue Works” YouTube channel yesterday interviewed Col. Larry Wilkerson (ret.), the former chief of staff to Colin Powell, for 50 minutes. Alkhorshid began the interview by showing a very powerful Turkish-produced two-minute video shared by President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The video is set in the year 2040 on the 16th anniversary of the beginning of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, showing commemorations in Seattle, Berlin, Paris and Seoul. In each location, whether in the family living room watching it on TV, in a theater watching a documentary film or walking through a genocide memorial, the children turn to the adults and ask simple but gut-wrenching questions: “Why didn’t you do anything?” “What were you doing during this genocide, grandpa?” “But it was all happening right in front of you.” “Did you just watch it?”

In every case, the adults cast their eyes downward in shame, unable to answer the child’s question “why?” Then the video concludes with this text: “The genocide committed by Israel is killing Palestinians. The genocide committed by Israel is killing humanity.” That text is repeated in Turkish, Arabic, and Hebrew.

Both Alkhorshid and Wilkerson were left speechless after watching the video.

Alkhorshid’s first question to Wilkerson, once they had both recovered their composure, was: “Is the United States going to join Israel in attacking Iran?”
