Israel was widely condemned for its attacks which struck UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is doubling down. Instead of refraining from strikes that hit UN forces, Netanyahu is demanding that the peacekeepers leave.
“It is time for you to withdraw UNIFIL from Hezbollah strongholds and from the areas of combat,” he said in a video message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. “Mr. Secretary General, get the UNIFIL forces out of harm’s way. It should be done right now, immediately,” Netanyahu dictated in English, reports Times of Israel.
