Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Kossuth Radio this morning that the “Victory Plan” of neighboring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will lead to his defeat. Orbán observed that Zelenskyy presented his plan to the EU summit yesterday but that the EU itself is already defeated. “The defeated now want to move on to a victory plan. We have said that we are not involved in this. You can’t win with this victory plan,” Orbán emphasized, reported TASS. “You can only lose with it. It is not a plan for victory, but for defeat,” the prime minister added. He confirmed that Hungary does not intend to take part in the implementation of such military plans and will not supply weapons to Ukraine.

According to Budapest, the Ukrainian conflict cannot be solved on the battlefield, but can only be settled diplomatically. “Therefore, negotiations are necessary and we should try to end the war as soon as possible to return to peaceful life,” Orbán insisted.

Orbán also dismissed the notion that Kyiv could ever negotiate with Russia from a position of strength. “As a result of the hostilities, the situation has changed in Russia’s favor, so Ukraine cannot negotiate from a position of strength, as the West advises, while people are dying on the front,” he said. Orbán emphasized that this is why it is necessary to reach a ceasefire and start peace talks as soon as possible. “I think the right idea is not to fight, but to make peace, or at least a ceasefire, and try to end the conflict with as few casualties as possible and with the best prospects for the future,” urged Orbán.
