At a press briefing in Kazan yesterday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told media: “From the point of view of BRICS and the main approaches of BRICS, there are no objections here,” when a journalist of the NTV channel asked about Türkiye’s chances of becoming a member of the association. Türkiye is a member of NATO and works closely with the EU. Peskov’s remarks are covered by TASS.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he “sincerely wants to develop cooperation with the association.” Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also confirmed Ankara’s interest in joining BRICS, and, in fact, Türkiye was admitted on Oct. 24 as one of the 13 “partner countries” of the BRICS.
