Russian Prime Minister Mishustin Advances Development in Iran, and at EAEU Meeting in Armenia

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin flew to Iran Sept. 30 to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where they worked to bring to a more finished form, the 30-year deal, first signed in June, between the National Iranian Gas Co. (NIGC) and Gazprom, which will bring Russian gas to Iran as part of a swap deal. Under this agreement, Iran will receive 300 million cubic meters of Russian gas per day through a new pipeline that Moscow plans to build under the Caspian Sea.

Iran has 29.6 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves, accounting for 16% of the world’s total reserves; but the United States and EU’s sanctions against Iran have significantly impaired its ability to invest in further production capabilities. Iran and Russia also have a strategic relationship. Likely, they covered strategic matters now unfolding in Southwest Asia.
