In the first nine months of 2024, Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers exported 24.36 million metric tons (mmt) of LNG, almost a 5% rise from the same period last year, reported the daily Kommersant.
In Europe, LNG imports from Russia increased in France, Netherlands, and Spain, mainly.
As navigation on the previously ice-covered Northern Sea Route remains open, ostensibly due to global warming, the Russian gas producer is redirecting most of its free volumes to Asia. For instance, in September, 1.48 mmt, or the bulk of LNG, was exported to the Asia-Pacific, namely, China, Japan and South Korea. Russia sold 1.15 mmt to Europe in September.
