On Wednesday night, October 23rd, 2024, two candidates for the U.S. Senate from New York debated on Spectrum News: Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand and Republican Mike Sapraicone. The absence of independent candidate Diane Sare was palpable.

Both Senator Gillibrand and Mr. Sapraicone were uncanny in their complete agreement on the open-ended funding of arm sales to Israel, as well as opposing a negotiated peace settlement to the Ukraine war. The only opposition to these policy positions would have come from the third candidate who is on the ballot for the November 5th election—Diane Sare. Incredibly, Sare was excluded from the debate.

Just as horrendous was the complete absence of Diane Sare as a choice for U.S. Senate at least two major polling agencies—see the polls from Siena College and Emerson College—even though Sare was the only statewide independent candidate to qualify for the ballot status in New York State, having succeeded in filing close to 70,000 signatures, out of 45,000 needed, from registered New York State voters.

This type of censorship of voting choices for the electorate is nothing more than a direct assault on the American principle of self-government. If Americans cannot count on being presented with policy alternatives which can be expressed by them through a fair and unbiased electoral process, then what is their recourse?

Sare’s response to this type of media and polling agency censorship, likewise typified by the New York Times’ refusal to list her candidacy in their coverage of the 2024 election choices for U.S. Senate in New York, can be seen in the three-minute video posted here.
