Journalists pounded State Department spokesman Matt Miller in the Oct. 15 press briefing as to why the administration is giving Israel 30 days, before it even contemplates enforcing the 620I Foreign Assistance Act provisions that specify that military assistance be halted to a country “when made known to the President that the government of such country prohibits or otherwise restricts, directly or indirectly, the transport or delivery of United States humanitarian assistance.” Why the 30 days?
Miller first replied: “We didn’t think it was appropriate to send a letter and just say this has to happen overnight.”
