Marcus Faber, a leading member of the FDP, says it is possible that the German government collapses in the Fall. On the ZDF television program Markus Lanz, Faber made the government coalition’s survival dependent on whether the SPD, Greens and FDP can still achieve something together. In the next two months, the federal budget for 2025, for example, must be decided and something must be done to stop industrial decline. “If we can still do something here, then it is also worth this coalition staying together. If we can no longer do that, then it is better to clear the way,” said Faber. “These are the options that are on the table.” That is why FDP party leader Christian Lindner is also talking about the “autumn of decision.”
Faber is chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee and vice-president of the FDP in Sachsen-Anhalt.
In the same talk-show, journalist Kristina Dunz reported that communication among government partners is currently at “kindergarten” level. Both Economy minister Habeck (Greens) and Finance minister Lindner (FDP) were not informed by Chancellor Scholz about his initiative of a summit with industrial leaders on tuesday. Lindner then convened his summit the same day, before Scholz’s one. When Scholz tried to reach him, Lindner did not pick up the phone.
