China has advanced one spot to 11th place on the Global Innovation Index (GII) for 2024. The index is issued by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a Geneva-headquartered UN body that has operated since 1970 and has issued the index since 2007.
China’s R&D spending in 2023 exceeded RMB3.3 trillion (roughly $500 billion), up 8.4% from the year before, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.
