According to experts cited in Sputnik, the recent effort by Ukrainian and foreign mercenary forces to penetrate into Russian territory in the Bryansk region may well have been a probe in preparation of a much larger NATO assault. Sputnik reported that they had questioned Middle East experts—"a region used to Western aggression, about what the mercs’ mission may have been meant to accomplish.”

Political scientist and Russia expert Dr. Abbas Hbeish said: “The infiltration attempt in Bryansk region can be considered an intelligence operation on the part of NATO, since the saboteurs who took part in it came from alliance countries.” Hbeish added that he did not rule out that the real goal “was to prepare the ground for a further, larger-scale attempt, including by NATO forces, to penetrate this Russian region.”

Lebanese international affairs expert Riyadh Najm agreed: “What is happening in Ukraine is a NATO war against Russia. The alliance is financing this war, training the Ukrainian army, providing it with various modern weapons and teaching them how to use them,” Najm told Sputnik.
