Russian Defense Minister Belousov UrgesGreater Defense Cooperation at CIS Ministers Meeting

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov encouraged the defense ministers of the Community of Independent States (CIS) to increase cooperation in the face of Western attempts to destabilize the region, reported Izvestia on Nov. 12. “In the context of new geopolitical realities, the vector of our cooperation with friendly countries should be directed towards building equal and indivisible Eurasian security,” Belousov said.

Speaking at a Nov. 12 meeting of the CIS member states Council of Defense Ministers that took place in Moscow, Belousov indicated that the departments have a lot of work to do in this direction. In an effort to maintain its role as hegemon, the collective West is trying to undermine regional stability, Belousov remarked. He declared that the CIS countries, former member-states of the Soviet Union, have created a common CIS radar identification system, called “Parol.” “We are exchanging experience, including that gained during the special operation in Ukraine. Joint events are held on a regular basis,” he said.
