Biden Administration Also Leaves with a Blow at India

While escalating war against Russia, the Biden Administration in its lame-duck months has also decisively escalated its legal hostilities against India, and even appears to be trying to help bring down the BRICS member government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (a Trump supporter in the past). Federal Prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York, the district which has been prosecuting President-elect Trump and his businesses during the 2024 campaign, on Nov. 21 announced criminal charges against India’s top construction and infrastructure businessman, Gautam Adani, a long-time ally of Modi who has also recently expressed support for Trump.

Already in 2023 there was an attempt from Wall Street stock exchanges and hedge funds to bankrupt the Adani Group or some of its companies, based on allegations of false representations by those companies of their valuations—precisely the charge brought against Trump’s family and businesses in the same New York Federal Circuit in 2023-24. Now the allegations against the Adani Group have been made into criminal charges against Adani and officials of his companies. And since, as the New York Times reported Nov. 21, one leading charge is under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, that Adani Group paid the equivalent of $250 in bribes to officials of Modi’s government, there is clearly the imputed intent to damage and/or bring down that government.
