China Responds to New Philippines Borders Regarding the South China Sea

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has announced a government policy in regard to the South China Sea, which Global Times notes is a “countermeasure to Philippines introduction of two laws infringing on China’s territorial integrity.” China on Sunday released the baselines of the territorial sea adjacent to Huangyan Dao, and the China Coast Guard (CCG), and stated that it has started to continuously strengthen patrols and law enforcement in the territorial waters of Huangyan Dao and related maritime areas, the Times reports. “The move comes after the Philippines’ introduction of the so-called Philippine Maritime Zones Act and Philippine Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act on Friday, for which China has summoned the Philippine Ambassador to China to lodge solemn representations.”
