Ever heard of the European Union’s ban of imports of Russian natural gas? In reality, imports have increased: Russia’s export of pipeline gas to Europe increased by more than 15% in January–October 2024 vs. 2023, from 23 billion to 26.52 billion cubic meters, according to calculations by TASS based on Gazprom’s daily data on transit via Ukraine and figures provided by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG).
An astonishing aspect of the reported increase in 2024 is that volumes supplied to Western and Central European countries via the Ukrainian territory equaled 12.85 billion cubic meters, which is 7% higher than in the previous year.
