EU ‘Diplomat’ Borrell Insists U.S. Pullback from Ukraine Means EU Must Seize Russian Money

The European Union should continue to support Kiev regardless of whatever decisions the U.S. makes under its new President, said lame duck EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, during the debate on EU-U.S. relations at the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg on Nov. 13.

But “replacing the United States would require huge financial and industrial efforts,” he was quoted by Interfax as saying, so we need to take all of Russia’s foreign funds. He explained: “We have decided to use revenues from these assets to help the Ukrainian defense industry, but it will no longer be enough. So, again the question is what to do with these assets. Not the revenues from the assets but the assets themselves.”
