Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf announced yesterday that Iran has begun enriching uranium using new advanced centrifuges, in response to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors resolution passed last week, censuring Iran for allegedly insufficient cooperation with the agency. Addressing a parliamentary meeting on Nov. 24, Qalibaf denounced the “unrealistic, political and destructive” approach by the European troika—France, the U.K. and Germany—that resulted in the adoption of the “unjustified and nonconsensual” resolution of the IAEA, reported [https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2024/11/24/3206220/new-advanced-centrifuges-come-into-operation-in-iran-parliament-speaker] Tasnim.
Qalibaf said that the EU3 has used Iran’s nuclear activities as an excuse to justify its illegitimate measures, adding that the European troika has questioned the IAEA’s independence with its insincerity and breach of commitments and is undermining the constructive atmosphere for stronger cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear agency. He noted that Iran immediately prepared a retaliatory response to this “political abuse of the IAEA’s Board of Governors” and began operating a set of new advanced centrifuges.
