In a Nov. 17 opinion column published by Fox News, Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) writes that Trump won the election because he appealed to the “center” in American politics, and that this is actually the majority of the country. Titled “The American People Picked Trump. Now Is the Time To Deliver Solutions for Everyone,” the column starts by saying it was not the extreme voices on either side that made the difference in this election, but rather what he called “sensible majority.”
Manchin writes: “Let me be clear: This victory was not a triumph for extremism and it is a rejection of the narrative that our country is so paralyzed by polarization as to be unable to find common ground. The truth is that a strong, sensible middle remains in America, seeking leaders who will deliver real, practical solutions to their everyday concerns.”
