Exemplary of the troubling side of the Trump administration is a video clip that Elon Musk posted to his X account on Nov. 20, with the headline “Milton Friedman Was the Best"—referring to the luminary of the “Chicago Boys” school of monetarist economics responsible for the Pinochet fiasco in Chile, among others. In the video, Friedman calls for eliminating all departments of government, except those dealing with Defense, Police and Justice (he has some reservations about Health and Treasury).

Somebody should inform Musk that Friedman’s policy is not original. Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini has the copyright for that in the 20th century. Here is what Benito said in his first speech to the Chamber of Deputies on June 21, 1921:
