At the London School of Economics on November 11 the UN special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese was speaking at an event while outside demonstrators from the London-based “Campaign Against Antisemitism” staged a protest. Albanese was invited on campus to address the Grimshaw Club for International Relations in a “conversation about international law and Palestine.”
Protesters held banners reading, “Ban Fran,” and “Ms. Albanese is not welcome at British universities.” Planned protests against another speaking engagement by Albanese at Queen Mary University in London scheduled for November 12 have already been canceled due to “fear of Amsterdam-style violence,” referring to violence against fans last week after a soccer game in Amsterdam between a Dutch team and a team from Tel Aviv.
