Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, paid a visit to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on Nov. 26, where he met with the top leadership. During four rounds of talks, he discussed economic, security, and transport with deputy prime ministers and ministers.
“We aim to develop bilateral cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan across the entire spectrum of areas. I confirm our readiness to build a constructive political dialogue between our countries, including for the purpose of giving impetus to the process of intra-Afghan settlement,” Shoigu said.
Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitr\y Peskov told his press briefing that the Taliban is in complete control of Afghanistan and is therefore a legitimate force for discussing country to country policies. There is now a measure in the State Duma to remove the Taliban from Russia’s terrorist list.
