Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Committee Assesses Progress in Riyadh Meeting

The second Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Joint Tripartite Committee met in Riyadh Nov. 19 to assess its progress since the signing of the March 10, 2023 Beijing Agreement, brokered by China, in which Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to reestablish diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies. Diplomatic relations between the two Southwestern Asian nations were broken between 2016 and 2023.

The Riyadh meeting was chaired by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Elkhereiji, and attended by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li and his large delegation. According to the press release by China’s Foreign Ministry, it was a very productive meeting in which Iran and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to all provisions of the Beijing Agreement, and recognized China’s continuing positive role in following up on the agreement’s implementation.
