Tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated in Jerusalem and at dozens of locations around Israel on November 5-6 to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s firing Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Nov. 5. The dismissal of Gallant, himself a leading Likud member, is to take effect today. According to a Channel 12 poll, 55% of Israelis oppose the firing of Gallant, with 32% in favor and 13% with no opinion.
At the Jerusalem protest, activists called for a deal to release the hostages held in Gaza, urged the cancellation of a planned bill enshrining into law draft exemptions for ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students, and demanded a State Commission of Inquiry into the security failures surrounding the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror onslaught.
