President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Nov. 30 that he would impose 100% tariffs against any BRICS or other countries that move to replace the dollar. His full entry reads:
“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER. We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy. They can go find another `sucker!’ There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, and any Country that tries should wave goodbye to America.”
Numerous BRICS countries have pointed out that it is not they, but the United States itself, that has driven them away from the dollar—by arbitrarily seizing their assets, by imposing thousands upon thousands of sanctions, and by requiring that their wealth go to keeping the dollar-denominated $2 quadrillion speculative bubble afloat.
Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche commented that if Trump really does impose 100% tariffs, that is as good as announcing the end of the dollar financial system: It will unleash major inflation, and collapse the value of the dollar internationally. And that goes along with the idea of a Global NATO and World War III.
