U.S. House of Representatives Passes Racist Anti-China Bill

On September 11, 2024, a new racist anti-China bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a vote of 237 to 180, with an overwhelmingly Republican majority vote. The bill, sponsored by Representative Lance Gooden (R.- Tx-5) now waits in the list of Judiciary Committee post-election bills, before being sent to the Senate. The lying purpose of the bill is to “counter the influence of the Communist Party of China (CCP).” H.R.1398, named, “Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act of 2024,” specifically targets Americans of Chinese descent working in science, academia, and in Chinese businesses.

The previous, racist “China Initiative,” launched under the earlier Trump administration, caused more than 250 researchers of Asian descent to lose their jobs—only 3 of whom were ever convicted! The hideous nature of this policy, implemented by the FBI and the National Institutes of Health, is indicated by the suicide of Chinese-American neuroscientist Jane Y. Wu, a prominent researcher at Northwestern University. This legislative/executive campaign is a disgusting assault against precious scientists, and against science itself.
