On the eve of the U.S. elections, the U.K.’s Council on Geostrategy published a call for Europeans to step up and form a “coalition of willing” prepared to ensure that the war against Russia run out of Ukraine will continue until Russia is defeated. No peace for Ukraine, no halfway ceasefire can be allowed, no matter what administration takes office in the United States. The appeal, “To Avoid Another Munich, Europe Must Act To Secure Ukraine,” had been “circulated privately among policymakers in the NATO alliance,” and signed “by over 100 signatories, including senior parliamentarians, former Ambassadors and security experts,” by the time of its publication on Nov. 3, they report.
The appeal describes Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as “a twin strategic danger.” Trump would “attempt to impose a deal with Russia detrimental” to both Ukraine and European security, while a Harris administration would “continue with the policies of stasis and red lines…. In both cases the parallels with the 1938 Munich Agreement are clear.”
What do they say must be done? The British mantra is repeated: It is a myth that Russia will win; there still is a path to victory by Ukraine, possibly by the end of 2025. “Building a massed precision strike force for Ukraine, with no external restrictions on its targeting, is within our grasp. To realize this goal, we must, however, strategically focus our support around a clear theory of victory....
“The course of action we propose is, for a coalition of willing nations within NATO to commit to enhance military and financial support to Kyiv and to recommit to the aim of a sovereign Ukraine within its borders recognised by international law, focused around a clear strategy and theory of victory.”
