Xi Holds Bilateral Meetings on the Sidelines of G20 in Brazil

During his visit to Brazil for the G20 Leaders Summit, China’s President Xi Jinping spoke with the leaders of Germany and France, and Argentina’ President Javier Milei. In meeting the European leaders, he attempted to remove concerns that they have with China’s increased role in the European market and worked to eliminate some of the EU’s tariffs against Chinese exports, in particular, their electronic vehicle exports. He also urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to help prevent an escalation of the war in Ukraine. With French President Emmanuel Macron, Xi also underlined the need for establishing a better relationship between China and the EU.
