The Dec. 4 conference of the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Buenos Aires, preceded by a Dec. 3 gala dinner, was organized like a Trump rally. Trump was wildly applauded, while the sanity-challenged President Javier Milei was extolled as the leader of a new international alliance of right-wing parties and individuals. According to media reports, the upscale Hilton Hotel site of the meeting was sparsely attended, with many empty seats, very few women, and a large contingent of young people (ages 25-30), self-defined as members of the “armed wing” of Milei’s Freedom Advances Party (LLA) with a paramilitary connotation. The conference opened with the Argentine national anthem, immediately followed, astonishingly for an Argentine event, by the Star Spangled Banner, while the large screen showed a waving U.S. flag.

Many participants donned red MAGA hats reading either “Make Argentina Great Again” or the U.S. version. Guests from the U.S. and Europe, echoed each other in attacking socialism, communism, and “lefties,” while extolling Milei’s commitment to “freedom.” Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump was the big draw, but neither Donald Trump nor Elon Musk showed up, much to Milei’s disappointment. Degenerate intelligence operative Steve Bannon sent a video hailing Milei as a “symbol of resistance” against those seeking “statism,” and proclaimed that “South America’s fate is in the hands of Javier Milei and Argentina’s patriots.” Milei, he said, will play a crucial role in global affairs.
