Chad has demanded the removal of French troops from its territory by Jan. 31, 2025, after refusing a request by France for a deadline at the end of March 2025. “Only seven weeks to get a thousand soldiers and a large amount of equipment out, it’s impossible,” France’s RFI radio station quoted a senior French defense official as saying according to TASS.
They also quote a Chad official saying “We are trying to find a solution that suits both sides.”
The French have already withdrawn several Mirage fighter jets while another 150 French servicemen will be evacuated starting next week.
The demand for the removal of French troops was announced on November 29 by the Chadian Foreign Ministry. Chadian Prime Minister Allamaye Halina officially appointed the members of a commission to implement the decision to end military cooperation with France.
