Georgia’s Tbilisi High Court Dismisses Opposition’s Evidence-Free Case

The Constitutional Court of Georgia yesterday dismissed lawsuits filed by President Salome Zourabichvili, and pro-Western opposition parties, which had sought for annulment of the Oct. 26 election. The court stated: “The Constitutional Court of Georgia did not accept the lawsuits of the President and political parties regarding the recognition of the Oct. 26 elections as unconstitutional.”

Her party had won around 10%, and her alliance of four opposition parties won a total of around 38%, while the Georgia Dream party won 54%. Now, for five weeks, Zourabichvili has claimed widespread fraud without providing any evidence. Rather, she has called out protests to try to block the convening of the elected Parliament, protests which have included violence.
